The 1,500 km long tourist megaproject “Maya Train” is set to bulldoze its way through the last remaining forests of southern Mexico -- despite serious human and environmental rights concerns.
Now, a local activist group in Mexico, Kanan Human Rights, have a plan to stop this: they are taking the Maya Train to court! Though they have won some of their appeals, they are facing some major roadblocks as federal courts don't want to talk about human rights violations.
This is how you can help -- Kanan wants the most authoritative court in Mexico to take the case, as it can do a much deeper analysis of the case.
Kanan is convinced that the Mexican Supreme Court will affirm what we already know: that the Maya Train violates the rights of Indigenous Peoples', campesinos and various local communities, as well as a long list of environmental rights.
Sign to tell the Mexican Supreme Court to take up the Maya Train case!
